Meeting  on Saturday January 6th has been CANCELED

Due to the severe winter weather that we experienced on Thursday, and the bitter cold and wind chill expected for Saturday, we are canceling the MVBA January meeting for Saturday January 6th. Please stay home and stay warm.

When the winds die down, and the mercury gets a little higher, I would recommend that you check your hives for food stores. Give lift on the back of the hive to qualitatively determine the weight and food supply. You can also pop the lid and look for bees on the top bars of the top box. If you have a lot of bees up on top, then you should add food in the form of fondant, or dry sugar, or sugar cakes. Keep your bees fed at this time of year and you will have a greater chance for survival in the spring.

In February we will again have our bee meeting at the Hudson Rec center normal times. We are busily preparing for Bee School and John will contact the speakers. There are some changes to the bee school schedule which will be communicated then.

Note that in April we will have elections for officers. The positions for President and Secretary are open to be filled. If you have a desire for either position, please let us know. We will have a balloted election at the April Meeting. As mentioned in the November meeting, I have greatly enjoyed being President these past 5 years, but for the growth of the organization I strongly believe that new ideas and leadership are best. A change in perspective with fresh ideas is always healthy, and I look forward to supporting the new president going forward.

Stay Warm
